RAMALLAH, WEST BANK - In the strongest public statement he has ever made pressing America's key ally in the Middle East to give up land it seized in the 1967 war,
George W. Bush, the U.S. President, called on Israel yesterday to "end ... the occupation"
and clear the way for the creation of a Palestinian state within the year.
